Fifty “icons” by Bartus Bartolomes (Bartolome Sanchez) are on display at the Dhoomi Mal  Gallery, 8-A Connaught Place. This is his first one-man show in India.

Bartus, born in Venezuela, has already had exhibitions in Rome, Paris and San Francisco. He is a self-taught artist. He is also a poet and a photographer. At present he is working in his country’s diplomatic service.

The 50 “icons” are in different shapes and colours. Some of those are brief previews of a much larger research project. He calls it the Archaeology of the Sign.

It is an approach to iconography through collage, Chinese ink, polychromat paper, letter-set, etc. and to geometrical or symbolical possibilities of the infinite and abstract world of the signs of our collective unconscious.

The exhibition will be on till Sept, 6.
